Looking to make these into a 3 color/ 3 value vector image…

I had a free afternoon today so I went to the American Museum of Natural History for a little direct observational drawing. The taxidermy specimens are amazing, but what I find even more beautiful and impressive are the backdrop paintings that seamlessly blend the foreground in the diorama into a seemingly vast expanse of outdoor space. Apparently these two are jostling for position over some female blah blah blah. Here’s what’s actually happening:
Moose #2: “Heh-Hey. Mel. Melvin. Come-Come on. Just. Quit it, okay? This tickle war was funny the first five ti-Mel. Really. Hey. Hey-ok now you’ve got my leg. Ok that hurts, Mel.”

Grant Caribou. The dioramas are also outfitted with lighting that casts strong shadows and heightens the dramatic effect of the scene. It helps me to focus on light and dark shapes when drawing, which is a plus.

Pig-bear-deer creature not drawn at the museum today. But he’s got antlers. This is drawn on one of those bland thank you notes from Target.
